Sound, fire resistant, direct skimming and speed of construction - just a few of the buzz words used by the Readymix sales team. Readyfloor is making a major new contribution in meeting these requirements. However the potential for even greater use of high performance product is in housing where the benefits can make a significant difference to the quality of life. Take for example, noise pollution; we are subjected to noise generated from our televisions, hi-fi's, washing machines, vacuum machines, etc never mind external sources of sound. We can't prevent it but we can and should take measures to reduce the sound transmissions in our own home.
Building Control, National House Building Council, and a number of home buyers showed support for better internal sound insulation. Nearly all respondents wanted a house with concrete floors first, which would provide good sound insulation. Concrete first floors can provide up to 50% better sound insulation than normal timber floors. The benefits of mass concrete to control sound insulation are well understood in the industry. As noise is clearly a public issue, it is likely that the sound insulation value of floors within all dwellings will become higher on many house purchasers agenda. A growing number of house builders are responding to purchasers requirements for improved internal sound insulation by incorporating Readyfloor at first floor level, with the strive for better performance, not just in sound insulation, but in speed of construction as well.
The realisation dawns that precast concrete floors are set to dominate the first floor level market in the same way that they dominated the ground floor level market with some 75% of market share. Another advantage is the capacity of Readyfloor to be designed to support most non-load bearing masonry blockwork, which reduces noise transmissions between rooms. There are numerous other advantage:
Precast concrete floors can achieve greater spans than timber requiring fewer load bearing block walls and foundations
A typical dwelling can be floored in approximately 3 hours with Readyfloor so building personnel need never leave the site
Readyfloor provides an immediate safe working platform for following trades
Readyfloor with it's long span allows greater flexibility of the layout of internal walls and are ideal for basement construction as they provide for clear open areas and improve the design effectiveness
Readyfloor achieves up to 2 hours fire protection where required
